Anonymous Question from a Player:
"I’m starting to feel like I might be on the wrong club team. I’m not sure if it’s the best fit for me, either for my development as a player or for reaching my goals. What should I do?"
My Response:
This is a great question, and you’re not alone in wondering about the best fit for your growth and goals. If you feel like your current team might not be the right match, the first step is to schedule a meeting with both your club coach and the club director. Approach this as a constructive conversation—ask them for feedback on your development and explain what you’re hoping to achieve in your club experience.
Often, clubs will work with players to find the best environment for their growth, even if that means moving to a different team within the same club. A club director I really respect once told me that she even helped a player find a new team by calling other clubs together to ensure they landed somewhere that better aligned with their needs.
Remember, finding the right team is about what’s best for your development and enjoyment of the game. Good coaches and directors want you to thrive, so don’t be afraid to reach out for guidance.
