Quick Freeze
Quick freeze after you pass to create a long, slow touch on the ball. Maintaining a solid platform significantly enhances the accuracy of your pass, ensuring a seamless smooth connection. You want to try to avoid rushing or making fast contact with the ball. Holding your position also lets you see where you need to make necessary adjustments. If your pass does not go where you have targeted, you can take a quick look to check your form. Pay close attention to the direction your feet are pointing, how low or high you are to the ground, what side of your body you choose, what angle you took, how you read the ball, and your shoulders. After you take a quick glance, hustle into coverage calling the play for your hitters.

Coachable Quick Freeze Pass Drill:
This at-home volleyball drill focuses on developing the skill of freezing quickly after passing to ensure a long, slow touch on the ball. It also emphasizes maintaining a solid platform for accurate passing and encourages players to assess and adjust their form.
Materials needed:
Volleyball
Open space (living room, backyard, garage)
Set Up:
Find a suitable space at home with enough room to move around.
Use masking tape or chalk to mark a target area on the wall at an appropriate height for your skill level.
Warm-up:
Perform a 5-10 minute warm-up routine to prepare your body for the drill. Include dynamic stretches, light jogging, and shoulder mobility exercises.
Passing Practice:
Stand about 8-10 feet away from the marked target area.
Begin passing the ball against the wall with the objective of achieving a long, slow touch on each pass.
Focus on freezing quickly after each pass, maintaining a solid platform by keeping your arms straight and shoulders relaxed.
Self-Assessment:
After each pass, take a quick glance at your form.
Check the direction your feet are pointing, your body position (low or high to the ground), the side of your body you choose for the pass, the angle you took, and how well you read the ball.
Pay attention to your shoulders and ensure they are parallel to the net.
Adjustments:
If the pass doesn't go as intended, quickly identify the issues during your glance.
Make necessary adjustments in your foot position, body angle, or platform to correct the pass.
Hustle and Call:
After the quick self-assessment, immediately hustle into a coverage position.
Call out the play for your hypothetical hitters, practicing communication and court awareness.
Repeat and Challenge:
Continue passing, freezing, assessing, adjusting, and hustling into coverage for a set duration or a specific number of repetitions.
Challenge yourself by increasing the difficulty, such as incorporating lateral movement or varying the height and angle of your passes.
Cool Down:
Finish the drill with a 5-10 minute cool-down routine, including static stretches to improve flexibility.
This drill aims to reinforce the importance of a quick freeze after passing, solidifying the fundamentals of accurate passing, and developing the ability to assess and adjust in real-time. Regular practice of this drill will enhance overall ball control and decision-making on the volleyball court.
