Hit Harder with Snap Speed

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Snap Speed

A successful volleyball approach involves many important details. There are entire books dedicated to perfecting your technique. Today, we'll concentrate on a very specific aspect: hitting the ball harder with quick snap speed. To achieve this, it's crucial to accelerate your swing as you snap the ball. After the snap, try to increase the speed of your arm as you follow through.

Let's get to work with the Coachable Hit Harder with Snap Speed Drill.

How to Hit Harder with Snap Speed Drill:

  • Stand in your hitting position.

  • Focus on your approach, making sure you have a good footwork setup.

  • Practice snapping your wrist and accelerating your swing simultaneously.

  • After the snap, continue your arm's motion with even greater speed as you follow through, aiming to finish high and strong.

  • Repeat this drill multiple times, gradually increasing the speed and intensity of your swings.

  • Pay attention to the timing of your snap and acceleration, ensuring they occur together for maximum power.

As you go through this drill, record your performance to track your progress.

Coachable Tip:

In a volleyball game, having a quick snap speed can be a game-changer. It can help you get past the blocker on the opposing team. Here's how it works: normally, the blocker expects your arm swing to happen at a certain speed. But if you suddenly increase your snap speed, it can mess up the timing of the blocker, making it harder for them to stop your shot. So, working on your snap speed can give you an advantage during the game.

Snack:

After doing plenty of repetitions and working up an appetite, it's a good idea to grab a snack. If you have an apple available, you can slice it into pieces and dip those slices into some peanut butter for a tasty and satisfying treat.

Volleyball Stretching Routine:

In today's dynamic volleyball stretching routine, focus on performing full-body stretches while you work on your setting and blocking progressions. This will help engage and strengthen your back muscles.
